Manolis Anastasakis was born on the island of Santorini, Greece. He was assisted in his studies by a scholarship from the Athens Academy of Science. In 1983, he received his Diploma in Architecture from the École spéciale d’ Architecture (ESA) in Paris, France. During the academic year 1980-81 he attended courses in urban studies at the University of Paris VIII. On a scholarship from the Onassis Foundation, he continued post-graduate studies in Urban Geography at the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (EHESS) in Paris. He was awarded the post-graduate degree of DEA in 1985.
In the years 1987-1989, he took part in the research activity of the Urban Geography workshop at the University of Nanterre-Paris X. He was employed as an architect by well-known firms in Greece before opening his own office in Athens in 1988.
In addition to his architectural practice, Mr. Anastasakis has been teaching interior architecture at the Decorative Arts Department of the Athens Technological Educational Institute (TEI) since 1993. Since then, he has supervised more than 30 final year students’ papers.
His drawings and projects have been presented in Greek and European exhibitions. He won an award in the “Europan 4” competition (1997), received second prize in a competition to design an ecological house in Greece (2000), and a project of his was selected by the Greek committee for the UIA competition (2003). His experience in designing school libraries is presented in his book: Redesigning Libraries for Schools. A proposal for secondary education (2003).
In the year 2006 he poses the question over the construction of skyscrapers in Athens, with his case study for a “multiscraper” in the area of the ancient olive grove.
He is a member of the Greek Institute of Architects and of the Technical Chamber of Greece.
