Ioanna Barkouta is a PhD architect practicing in Greece. She is Visiting Professor of the Department of Interior Architecture, University of West Attica (Architectural design V, Structural design III) (2020, 2021) and she was Visiting Professor of the Department of Architecture, University of Thessaly (Urban design I-II, Architectural design, Architectural theory) (2021, 2020, 2019, 2017, 2016, 2015). She studied Architecture (Department of Architecture, University of Thessaly), had a Ma Studies Diploma (School of Architecture, National Technical University of Athens) and completed her PhD (cum laude) from the Department of Architecture, University of Thessaly. The title of her thesis is “Habitation in a state of emergency: The Athens Paradigm in Times of Crisis”. She has published two books in Greek/English on architecture and architectural theory: “Habitation in crisis. The example of Athens, spatial upsets and reasons of the subjects from domestic scale to city scale” (2019) and “Practices of Urban Solidarity” (2016) with Zissis Kotionis. Projects and papers of hers have been published in Greece and abroad. She is an architect who works in a range of scale from housing to urban design. She is also involved in workshops and lectures (2021, 2020, 2019, 2017, 2016, 2015, 2013). Selected exhibitions: Biennale of Venice (architecture) 2016, Athens Biennale of Architecture (2015).
