Course content

Traditional techniques and design styles of ceramic objects for artistic and decorative purposes.
Theoretical and practical training of ceramic design for indoors, and decorative applications.
Introduction to ceramic art and teaching techniques of it, integration of their communication function in the field, their understanding and their representation based on anthropo centric analysis and reference.

Programme aims

Students understand the basic concepts and principles of Ceramic Art and gain good knowledge of the materials, their properties, techniques, but also the technology of Ceramics.
– Acquire skills in using, manufacturing and proposing simple and complex glassings after testing.
– To acquire skills in making useful or simple decorative objects, through the in-depth search of plastic forms, inspired by traditional and modern sources.
After the end of the course, students will be able to:
– Choose and use raw materials and glass at a satisfactory level (following the rules and proportions to be observed, with the adequacy of their physical and chemical composition).
– Be aware of pottery techniques (traditional and modern), in collaboration with new technological applications, in order to apply them to suggested utilitarian or decorative objects.
– Be able to propose designs and decorative solutions in Craft and Manufacturing Laboratories, guiding the evolutionary course of the work (Design –Production).
– Be able to recognize ceramic objects and integrate them into the correct Historical context.
– Be able to undertake small-scale surface decorations, proposing the design of overlay, reel or painted tiles.
– Be able to evaluate, characterize and integrate decorative ceramics into the rhythm and style of each interior or outdoor space.

STUDENT EVALUATION
Written final examination (40%) which includes:
Multiple selection questions and/or
development of specific issues mainly related to the technological dimension of ceramics.

Presentation of individual work (60%) which will include the research, design and construction work of the students.
